I got this soccer goal set for my 5-year-old son, and one of the things I appreciate most about it is something you can't really put on the product box: it gives us another reason to get outside and spend time together.
At five years old, the energy supply is apparently infinite. Giving him something that encourages him to run, kick, chase the ball, practice aiming, and just PLAY has been great enrichment. He loves soccer now and is constantly kicking the ball around and running back and forth between the goals. Meanwhile, I'm getting to participate instead of just watching him burn energy by himself.
It's also a surprisingly complete little setup. You get two goals, cones, a soccer ball, a pump, and ground spikes to help keep the goals secured, so we had pretty much everything we needed to start playing.
The smaller 4×3-foot goals are perfect for backyard play because they give him an actual target without taking over the entire yard. We can set up little drills with the cones, practice shooting, or just have our own miniature soccer matches.
As a parent, I'm always a fan of something that gets a child away from a screen, outside, moving, learning coordination, and burning some of that seemingly endless five-year-old energy. But the best part for me is getting to play alongside him and make those memories together.
